There are a TON of beds similar to this for much cheaper, but it was nearly half off and several hundred more normally so I went for it. It is someone different than the many industrial look beds out . The mattress shown is 14” thick and not yet expanded. I think there might be a tolerable 1” gap if you got a 12” mattress. It’s really beautiful, all wood, and what one hopes for when getting the cheaper ones, which are fine for dorms. But this thing is really solid and unbelievably heavy. We purchased this in two sizes. They have performed different, so I am going to review each independent from each other. This purchase was for a king bed. It went together relatively easily, and I did it by myself. It probabaly took less than two hours. The metal is sturdy, the pieces went together well (some of the screws are tight and I needed a few breaks between - but that’s a good thing!). It has been used for over two years now and has held up great! No scratches, little to no squeaking, no slats falling outloosening, etc. I am happy with the quality and price point.
